3D-DVD Playback

Recommended Decoders

Stereoscopic Player and Tridef are the only software available which can play 3D-DVDs. However, Stereoscopic Player does not provide its own decoders, so you have to install third party DVD decoders first. We recommend the following free decoders. Click on the following links to download them:

bulletVideo: GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder
bulletAudio: AC3Filter

Important: The GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder does not play encrypted (copy protected) discs. AC3Filter decodes Dolby Digital soundtracks but not DTS or MPEG soundtracks.

After installing both decoder, click File->Settings->General in Stereoscopic Player and select them as DVD video and audio decoders. Please note that these settings affect DVD playback only, not MPEG file playback!

Decoder Overview

The following DVD video decoders have been tested to comply with Stereoscopic Player. Only the GPL MPEG Decoder and the Moonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder will be automatically configured by Stereoscopic Player. If you use any of the other decoders, you have to disable deinterlacing manually when playing interlaced 3D-DVDs.

bulletGPL MPEG-1/2 decoder: Recommended DVD decoder for Stereoscopic Player. It is available for free, is configured automatically by the player and provides best picture quality, however it does not support CSS-encrypted (copy protected) DVDs for legal reasons.
bulletMoonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder: Does not support encrypted (copy protected) DVDs as well. Make sure you use the most recent version, because older ones do not decode color information properly (causes ghosting).
bulletCyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PowerDVD decoder): We have tested PowerDVD 6, some older versions are known to be incompatible with Stereoscopic Player. After opening an interlaced DVD, click File->Video Decoder Properties and select Force weave  to disable deinterlacing.
bulletInterVideo Video Decoder (WinDVD decoder): Successfully tested, but cannot be used for interlaced DVDs, because deinterlacing cannot be turned off.
bulletNVIDIA PureVideo Decoder: Successfully tested, but does not decode color information properly, causing ghosting when playing interlaced DVDs. Anyway, don't forget do disable deinterlacing when playing interlaced DVDs. Click File->Video Decoder Properties and select Film mode.

In opposite to video decoders, it is not critical which audio decoders to use for 3D-DVD playback. All tested audio decoders worked fine. If you want to enable SPDIF output, you should either use AC3Filter, the InterVideo Audio Decoder or the NVIDIA Audio Decoder. After you have opened the DVD, click File->Audio Decoder Properties and select the SPDIF option.
