3D FilmmakersAlthough numerous books about conventional filmmaking exist, none has solely
addressed the challenges and production requirements of making stereoscopic
motion pictures. Until now. Stereographer and film historian, Ray Zone, presents
the insights of twenty-one professionals who have worked in this specialized
field.

A Practical Guide to Mounting Stereo Slides
by Harry zur Kleinsmiede
3-D Mounting Guide can be seen as a supplement to The World of 3-D!
This book presents a compact and non-technical explanation of the basics of stereo viewing
and the requirements of a properly mounted slide. A simple stereo drawing is used
repeatedly to show correct mounting as well as almost every possible error.
Those who want to learn the basics without being intimidated by technical theories or complex equipment will find 3-D Mounting Guide quite direct and to the point. Like The World of 3D it contains many stereo pairs which are suitable for free viewing or viewing with a simple viewer.

Updated by George Themelis
This is the book about the camera that started the 1950s stereo camera craze. It is a good starter book on understanding the 5p format and other basic aspects of stereo photography. The Realist camera has a few idiosyncraticies that are difficult to understand without the instruction that this book provides. This includes the fact that one cradles the camera on your forehead and the loading procedure of the film which if not followed properly can result in a wasted roll.
Dr. T adds many relevant annotations in his updating of the book and also includes notes on exposure and a sunny 16 exposure chart. Also included are several relevant articles about the Realist from the Stereogram the Newsletter of the Ohio Stereo Photographic Society.

Repair Manual for the Fed Stereo
Camera
This book is an indispensable resource for the owner of any Fed Stereo Camera. Due to the peculiarities of the Eastern European design and the rarity of the camera most repair people have little knowledge of the camera. The 7P format and the auto-exposure make this one of the most popular modern stereo cameras. The manual is an 'English' translation of the original factory manual and although accurate, does not have the highest production value. However the figures and the information is invaluable.
We have included a sample page of this 22 page (5 figures) Softcover book.

This 3rd Edition features more text on every subject, more illustrations including 34 full-color 3-D views, and better image quality thanks to the use of a special high-resolution continuous-tone printing process.
In easy-to-understand terms this book covers everything from taking 3-D photos with a single ordinary camera to mounting 3-D slides or prints, viewing, and even projecting in 3-D. For three years the earlier editions were used for a university course in London, England.
Twin cameras, stereo cameras, attachments, and even a bit of history are all included in this 32 page book. The 34 full-color 3-D views and 27 black-and-white illustrations range in subject from aerial hyperstereos to close-ups of flowers and birds, and compliment the easily understood text. All 3-D images are suitable for free-viewing (directions included), or for viewing with an optional viewer.
The book is about 5˝" x 8˝", printed on glossy paper. If you bought the 1st or 2nd edition of this book, you still should consider adding this beautiful new 3rd edition to your collection. If you are a beginner we strongly recommend this as a great book to get you started!

STEREOSCOPIC
PHENOMENA OF LIGHT & SIGHTTHEODORE BROWN (1870-1938) WAS A British 3-D photographer whose special interests were stereo pictures and the magic lantern. From the mid-1890s until around 1930, he sold mirror attachments to adapt ordinary cameras to 3-D photography and experimented with various projection systems for viewing still and moving 3-D images without special viewers. Brown wrote this work in 1903 and it was published by The Gutenberg Press in London in a very limited quantity, probably only 500 copies and most likely not more than 1000, so original copies of the book are extremely rare.
Well-known 3-D photographer David Burder, of London, England, loaned his copy to Susan Pinsky and David Starkman of Reel 3-D Enterprises, and they reproduced it faithfully to create this exceptionally high-quality facsimile copy of the original. In this work, you'll see the stereo photographer's world as it was seen nearly 100 years ago. While just about all the technology has changed radically over almost a century now, you'll be quite surprised to see that much in stereo photography has remained exactly the same, giving this reproduction a high practical value to today's 3-D photographer along with a fascinating historical look at the 3-D of long ago.

THIS BOOK IS THE SECOND in a series of facsimile editions of historical 3-D works published by David Starkman and Susan Pinsky of Reel 3-D Enterprises; it follows Brown's Stereoscopic Phenomena of Light and Sight (1903), which they published in 1994. The Stereoscope and Stereoscopic Photography was written in 1894 by F. Drouin of France and first published in French. Matthew Surface (then editor of The Practical Photographer) translated it into English that same year for publication in England.
Little is known about F. Drouin himself, but the high quality of his work leads us to believe he was very skilled and knowledgeable in photography in general and the 3-D techniques and equipment of his day. This book focuses mainly on the stereoscopes of that era. Drouin thoroughly describes and illustrates just about all types that were in use at that time, as well as a number of advanced concepts in stereo photography and viewing that became practical and feasible only long afterwards with the development of new technologies. The author also discusses all types of stereo photography methods (e.g., single camera, twin camera, twin-lens camera, slide bar, etc.), as well as a brief section on bin-ocular vision and the perception of relief. David and Susan are to be commended for the superb reproduction quality of this facsimile edition of a fascinating book and thanked for their on-going efforts to provide 3-D enthusiasts with copies of these excellent historical works, in which much of the information is just as valid and useful today as it was over 100 years ago.
